Control over timing and scope of indexing

At the moment, I cannot control what hard drives are indexed and when. The information on the website suggests one can control indexing timing to some degree, but the GUI is not the one I have in my version (I am on the most recent version). It would be good to only index hard drives/folder manually when I want to; to index one hard drive/folder without indexing others. In particular, my issue is that I don't need to and want to index my external hard drive as often as Curiosity is indexing it automatically.
